Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: 2011 D.C. Marathon

In Honor of Irving Halpern

Notes

Thank You!

The race yesterday was almost indescribable. Thank you to all of you who made generous contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The LLS coordinator for New York City tells us our group raised $633,860. This group of 175 runners trained for separate marathons, half-marathons and various events in New York, Washington D.C. San Francisco and Chicago. Most of us worked together from June to early October. It was a pleasure getting to know so many nice people who came together for a great cause.

With your help we contributed more than $3,800 to the group total. The experience of reconnecting with so many of you through the fundraising process was just as rewarding as the run.

And speaking of the run – We beat Diddy!! (see p. 2) I came in just under four hours after the left hamstrings briefly locked up at mile 24. I was able to quickly stretch and finish with a lot of encouragement from thousands of people lining the last two miles of the course.

I will post a few more entries about this race and get back to training soon—LLS continues to fund research and provide a wide range of patient services.

Thank you again for making this experience possible.
